What Is MOFA Attestation?
MOFA attestation is the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) certifying the signatures and seals on your document, so UAE employers, universities, banks and government departments can accept it. For a document issued abroad, MOFA is the final stage. It comes after attestation in the home country and legalisation by the UAE Embassy or Consulate there.
MOFA Attestation Fees
MOFA publishes these government fees. Attestation companies do not set them.
| Document type | MOFA fee |
|---|---|
| Personal and educational documents | AED 150 each |
| General commercial documents | AED 2,000 each |
| Commercial invoices and certificates of origin, via eDAS | AED 150 each |
Courier charges and our service fee are separate, and a foreign document will already have incurred home country and embassy charges. We confirm the full amount before any work begins.
How Long Does MOFA Attestation Take?
- Courier attestation — 1 to 3 business days
- Digital Attestation, for eligible UAE-issued digital documents used abroad — within 2 hours during working hours
- Invoices and certificates of origin through eDAS — around 2 minutes
These cover the MOFA stage only, and are service targets rather than a promise. Documents still needing home country or embassy steps take longer, because those happen abroad.
Can You Do MOFA Attestation Online?
Partly. The application and payment are online through the MOFA website or the UAE MOFA smart app, and you need a verified UAE Pass. Physical documents are still collected and returned by courier.
Once attestation is complete, check the reference on the Ministry’s portal at verify.mofa.gov.ae. If it does not verify, check the reference and date, then contact MOFA before relying on the document.
The Process, Step by Step
- Document review. We check where it was issued and which stamps it carries, then tell you what is missing.
- Translation, if needed. MOFA requires documents in Arabic or English, or legally translated. We arrange legal translation when yours needs it.
- Submission. We apply through MOFA and pay the government fee.
- Attestation. MOFA verifies the earlier stamps and issues its attestation with a reference number.
- Return. Your original comes back by courier, or you collect it from our Oud Metha office.

F.A.Q
Q1. Is MOFA attestation the last step?
Answer
For a foreign document used in the UAE, usually yes. Educational certificates may still need equivalency. A UAE document going abroad may need further legalisation in the destination country.
Q2. My document has an apostille. Is that enough?
Answer
No. The UAE is not part of the Hague Apostille Convention, so an apostille does not replace the UAE legalisation chain. Read more on apostille attestation.
Q3. Why is an invoice cheaper than a contract?
Answer
They use different services. Invoices and certificates of origin go through MOFA’s eDAS system at AED 150. Contracts and company records go through standard attestation at AED 2,000.
Q4. My certificate has no embassy attestation. What now?
Answer
That step must be completed through the UAE mission responsible for the issuing country. Some accept it online, others need courier or in-person handling. Send us a scan to confirm.
Q5. How do I start?
Answer
Send us a scan or photo of your document on WhatsApp, or fill in the form on this page. We will review it and quote you before any work begins.
